For Windows
DNS settings are specified in the TCP/IP Properties of your network connection.
- Open Control Panel
- Click Network and Internet -> Network and Sharing Center -> Change adapter settings.
- Choose your connection and right-click. If Windows asks for an Administrator password or confirmation, provide the necessary items. Select Properties.
- Select the Networking tab, then Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4). Click Properties.
- In the new window, click Advanced and select the DNS tab. If DNS servers are listed here, copy the information to a safe place. Then erase them.
- Click OK.
- Select "Use the following DNS server address". If IP addresses are listed in the Preferred DNS Server and Alternate DNS Server fields, write them down and keep the information in a safe place.
- Enter the DNS server IP addresses you selected (above).
- Shut down and restart your computer.

For MacOS
DNS settings are specified in Network settings.
- Click Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Network.
- If the padlock icon in the lower left corner is closed, click on this icon to signal your intention to change the settings and enter the credentials of a system administrator.
- Select the network connection you want to change. Generally this will be the WiFi connection, or Ethernet if your computer is connected to a network by cable.
- Click Advanced.
- Select the DNS tab. If DNS servers are entered here, copy the information and save it in a safe place, then delete them (using the - icon).
- Click on + and enter the IP address of the DNS server(s) you selected above.
- Click OK.
- Click Apply.

For Android
Changing DNS settings is only possible on Android 9 (Pie) or newer. We recommend that you check whether the DNS service provider you have chosen supports DNS-over-TLS. If not, the only option is to download Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 app.
If your provider of choice supports DNS-over-TLS:
- Open Settings.
- Select Network & Internet, then Advanced Preferences
- Select Private DNS
- Select Private DNS Provider Hostname. If this field is already filled in, write down the information and keep it in a safe place, then delete it.
- Encode the host address according to the provider you chose above.

For iOS
DNS is configured in your device settings.
- Select Settings, then Wi-Fi.
- Press the i button for the network you are connected to.
- Select Configure DNS and change the setting to Manual mode. If it is already in this mode, take note of the servers that are filled in and keep the information in a safe place, then delete them using the red – buttons.
- Use the green + button to add the IP addresses of the DNS servers you selected above.
- Save the settings.
No protection needed?
The Belgium Anti-Phishing Shield (BAPS) is a protection measure offered by the Center for Cybersecurity Belgium. It aims to protect Internet users against phishing and malware. You may choose to disable this safeguard, but at your own risk. The following procedure describes how to disable BAPS depending on the operating system (Windows, MacOS, Android, iOS).
BAPS is activated by your internet service provider for responses to the DNS protocol, which translates a machine name such as www.ccb.belgium.be into an IP address usable by a computer. Please note that you can disable any protective measures taken by your Internet service provider by following the procedure below.
In order not to use BAPS, you must first select an alternative DNS provider. Here are some examples:
- Google: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
- Cloudflare: 1.1.1.1
- IBM Quad 9: 9.9.9.9
Be aware that these alternatives all perform some form of filtering or the other.
Also be aware that a wrong move when changing the DNS configuration can make your Internet connection inoperative. The CCB and your access provider are in no way responsible for any problem you may encounter following these operations.
